Axanthic

This mutation was first produced & proven simple recessive in 1997. We acquired our first Axanthic ball pythons into our collection in 2002. They were captive bred and hatched by The Snake Keeper (Dan and Colette Sutherland).

There are at least two different genetic lines of Axanthic ball pythons that are not compatible (Jolliff & VPI/Barker bloodlines). In 1999 a third Axanthic mutation was produced & proven simple recessive by The Snake Keeper. At this time we do not know if this line is compatible with either of the other two bloodlines.

Axanthic ball pythons are lacking yellow pigment.  As babies Axanthic ball pythons are black, white, and silver/gray.  As adults some tend to brown out with age others remain black white and silver/gray. We have seen both excellent and poor examples of Axanthic adults from all three bloodlines.

We are working with 2 different bloodlines of Axanthic ball pythons, one from The Snake Keeper and the other came from Stefan Broghammer and was imported from Germany. These animals could pass for siblings side by side. We are hoping that they will be compatible, only time will tell.
