Caramel Albino
This mutation was first produced & proven simple recessive in 1996. We acquired our first Caramel Albino ball python into our collection in 2004. He was captive bred and hatched by Morph King Reptiles, produced out of a combination of different bloodlines.
Caramel Albinos are also known as Xanthic Albinos or Tyrosinase Positive Albinos. Tyrosinase is used in the synthesis of melanin. This is an albino mutation that is able to synthesize tyrosinase, but unable to synthesize melanin. It is not unusual though to find the occasional individual with scattered black pigment. In these individuals some of the cells have regained their ability to synthesize melanin. Caramel Albinos have deep red pupils and a normal dorsal pattern. The dark portion of the pattern is a caramel color with a yellow "wash" that covers the entire dorsal surface of the snake. |
