Clown

This mutation was first produced & proven simple recessive in 1999. We acquired our first Clown ball pythons into our collection in 2002 and are currently working with both the VPI and BHB bloodlines.

This is actually the first proven black back ball python mutation. This is a genetic mutation that is both a color and pattern mutation. Clown ball pythons are a tan gold color with a brown dorsal stripe that branches down the sides of the animal.  The head pattern is unlike a normal ball python, it is extremely aberrant and the gold stripe through the eye is absent. As the animal matures it tends to lighten with age almost appearing to be Hypomelanistic.

We are aware of to different lines of Clown ball pythons. There have since been two proven bloodlines, VPI bloodline established by Dave and Tracy Barker and BHB Enterprises bloodline established by Brian Barczyk. Back in 1995 before the Clown was proven to be genetic even the Barkers did not believe that it would prove out. We are certainly glad that this wasn’t the case.
