Spider
This mutation was produced and proven dominant in 1999. We acquired our first Spider ball pythons into our collection in 2003. They were captive bred and hatched by Renaissance Reptiles (Nigel and Gail Thorpe).
The Spider mutation is both a color and a pattern mutation. The base color of a Spider is a yellow/gold color with a greenish tint. The dark dorsal markings are extremely thin and aberrant and are a black/brown color. The lateral pattern is almost pied with some yellow/gold, orange and gray flecks in the white colored area. The iris on the Spider is a green/gold color and the head pattern is extremely variable.
The Spider mutation has not produced a visible homozygous animal making this a dominant not co-dominant mutation. However, the Spider has been crossed with a number of other mutations to create some beautiful designer mutations.
